The brevity of this primer doesn't allow for discussion of the complex
dialectic relationship between principally the photographic portrait and
the dactylogram, as the fingerprint was first called.

Origin:
Dactylogram is a combination of dactylo meaning "finger" and gram
meaning "something written." It entered English in the 1910’s.
